Event day Information
Really Muddy Fife & Kinross
Saturday September 5th 2026
What to expect . . . .
MacTuff Really Muddy Fife & Kinross is a challenging mud and obstacle course event suitable for almost all ages and most abilities. However, don't underestimate it – this is definitely not a walk in the park. It is hilly, very muddy and very, very wet. The Kids event is 3km and a smaller loop than the adults' 5km. The adults' 5k is a single large loop; the 10k is 2 laps of the 5km course, so double the trouble!
It is an important note that all children must be accompanied on the course by registered adult participants with paid adult tickets.
The Venue
Tullibole Castle, Crook of Devon, Kinross, KY13 0QN.
Tullibole Castle is a private estate on the edge of the village of Crook of Devon, roughly 6 miles west of Kinross and a short drive from junction 6 of the M90. Please treat it with the respect you would give someone's home – because it is.
Google Maps: Click here for directions to Tullibole Castle (Google Maps)
The nearest public transport is to Kinross (bus) or Dunfermline / Inverkeithing (rail), with a limited bus service to Crook of Devon. Realistically you will need private transport or a taxi to get to the venue, unless you are 'really adventurous'.
Dogs & Animals
Tullibole is a working estate with livestock and wildlife. No dogs or other animals are allowed on site, with the exception of registered assistance dogs. Please leave them at home.
Still Open for Entries
At present we still have a number of entries available for select wave times. If you have family or friends that wish to enter, please let them know.
Registering for the Race
All registrations are online and in advance of race day. When registration is closed it is not possible to register. There are no on-the-day registrations under any circumstances.
Event Waiver
It is essential that all participants (or a parent or carer in the case of under 18s) have individually signed a waiver. No participation is allowed without a signed waiver and all participants take part in the event on the understanding of agreeing to the waiver.
Waivers are attached to the pre-race email. Waivers should be printed, signed, brought with you to the event and handed in to registration when you collect your race band and t-shirt. We will have extra printed waivers at registration for those that have been unable to print or have forgotten them.
Parking & Event Access
All parking is in a field on the estate and is accessed via the signed event entrance off the main road through Crook of Devon. Parking marshals will direct you to where you can park. Please follow their instructions – it is a field, so drive slowly and park where you are told. If the weather has been wet, the parking field will be soft; a 4x4 is not required but please take care and do not park on any grass verges.
Parking is free of charge for all attendees.
Allow yourself 10–15 minutes at least to park and walk to the start/finish area. Event access is on foot only from parking to the start/finish area. Please follow the signed route and marshals' directions and keep off any areas that are roped off.
Registration
All race packs including t-shirts are collected on your event day.
You should collect your pack from:
Race Registration, MacTuff, Tullibole Castle, Crook of Devon, Kinross KY13 0QN
This will be close to the castle, in a large white marquee.
For Individuals: we recommend you collect your pack 30–45 mins before the start of your wave. Packs are collected using the name(s) on your registration, in last-name order. Everyone that has registered online (including those that have put a team name) is registered as an individual. Don't forget your race waiver.
For Groups: if you are part of a group that has been registered directly with us via email, your packs will be available as a single collection for your whole group. Go to the registration desk and state you have a 'Group Registration' and state your group name. You will need all the waivers for all group members in order to collect.
At registration you will be given a wristband which must be worn by all participants, as this gives access to your wave start. No access will be provided without a wristband. It is not possible to collect your race medal after the race without a wristband. It is not essential to wear your provided race t-shirt, but we encourage you to feel part of the clan.
Clothing
DON'T WEAR COTTON. DON'T WEAR HEAVY CLOTHES. DON'T WEAR CLOTHES THAT SUCK IN AND ABSORB WATER. DON'T WEAR NEW TRAINERS.
Wear light, man made fabrics next to your skin that will typically allow your body to breathe and release moisture. Wear layers if you feel the need, but skin alone will dry quicker than your clothes. Wear old but comfortable trainers. Do your shoelaces up real tight. Some people like to wear gloves that will give them grip on obstacles.
Have your after-event clothing set out as much as possible before you participate, allowing you to quickly clean, change and get warm. Remember bottles of water, soap or shower gel and old towels to get the mud off you, a change of footwear and clothing, and plastic bags for your wet and dirty clothing and towels.

Bag Storage
At Race HQ there will be attended bag storage (please go to baggage and get a tag for your bag). Bag storage is free, but we do not accept any responsibility for loss or damage of belongings placed in baggage storage.

Toilets
Toilets in the form of portaloos are located between the parking area and the start/finish area. There are no toilets out on the course.
Rubbish
Please take your rubbish with you, or dispose of it in the bins available in the event area. Do not discard it on the ground. We are guests on a private estate and want to be invited back.
Changing Facilities
A very rudimentary changing area is available in the marquee. THERE ARE NO SHOWERS. We recommend that participants bring with them items such as bottles of water (for washing down with), soap or shower gel, a flask of hot water, a hot water bottle, wipes, cloths, towels and a change of clothes to get themselves clean, dry and warm after the race. There are basic wash-off facilities via cold water taps and hoses near the start/finish area, with shower gel available close to them – but bring your own too for convenience and thoroughness.
Mud, Water & Hygiene – PLEASE READ
This is a natural course through fields, burns, ditches and woodland on a working farm estate. The mud and water on the course are exactly that – natural, untreated and not clean. Please follow these simple rules:
-
Do not swallow or ingest any mud or water on the course. Keep your mouth closed when going through water and mud obstacles and avoid splashing water into your face where you can.
-
Do not drink from any burn, ditch, pond or water obstacle. Drinking water is only available at the water stations.
-
After the event, wash your hands and face thoroughly with soap and water before eating, drinking, smoking, or touching your face or mouth. Soap and water will be available near the finish area, but we strongly recommend you bring your own soap or shower gel with you to help shift the stubborn dirt. Hand gel on its own is not enough to remove mud – use soap and water first.
-
Parents and carers: please make sure children wash their hands and face with soap and water before they eat or drink anything, including the well-earned post-race snack.
-
Cover any cuts or grazes with a waterproof plaster before you start, and clean any cuts you pick up on the course as soon as you finish.
-
If you feel unwell in the days after the event (for example an upset stomach), please see your GP or call NHS 24 on 111 and mention that you have taken part in a mud run.
Wave Starts
Everyone has a wave start time, and a number of people set off in each wave. Waves will start on time. Access to your wave is via your wristband. No wristband, no entry. Each wave will be called out 5 minutes before start time. It is a good idea to be ready to enter the wave area 10 minutes before your wave to ensure you do not miss it.
During the Event
Be aware of how long you will be on the course
5km approx 50–90 minutes; 10k approx 90 mins–2.5 hrs; 3km (Kids with participating adult guidance) 50–90 mins.
Be aware of those around you
Encourage and support those around you. Help others that are in need of help. Contact the nearest marshal or medic if you see someone in trouble.
Be aware of the course
Pay close attention to course markers. Be careful of every step you take as the terrain constantly changes. Do not cross rope and course markers – you will be going the wrong way.
Be Sensible & Be Safe
Don't push yourself beyond your capabilities. Take on water at the water station if you need it. Stop frequently if you need to. Pay attention to race officials – follow their instructions and do not ignore them.
You are YOUR Challenge
Run in your own time and enjoy it at a pace you can sustain. Finish with a SMILE. It is over, and you have done it.
The Route
The course is treacherous from start to finish, with many natural and unnatural hazards along the way. It is important to state this is not a race: participants should travel at a pace which is comfortable for them and take on hazards and obstacles cautiously and carefully. It is the accompanying adults' responsibility to ensure that the children in their charge are going around the course safely and responsibly.
String and poles guide the route. To experience all obstacles you should stay in the middle of the guided route. If you do not wish to take on an obstacle, you should either go around the obstacle and stay within the string if space safely allows, otherwise step safely outside the string and poles and walk around the obstacle whilst keeping a safe distance from the string and poles.
DO NOT touch or hold string and poles – they are NOT designed to hold your weight and holding them is a safety hazard. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL if you do cross string and course markers – if you are not following string and pole markers you will be going the wrong way. DO NOT DISLODGE OR MOVE ANY COURSE MARKING POLES OR STRING. If you accidentally dislodge or move any course string or poles, please tell the nearest marshal so the area can be reassessed for safety and the course items replaced properly.

Water Stations
There is a water station out on the course, and in the finish area. If you stop to drink water out on the course, please do so without impeding other participants. Please use the bins provided for your cups.

Refreshments
There will be a food truck close to the start/finish area selling food and hot/cold drinks. They accept payment via cash or card. Please wash your hands with soap and water before eating – see the Mud, Water & Hygiene section above.

Marshals
Please respect the marshals and all the helpers on the day. Please obey their instructions and do thank them. Please remember that they have given up their time in order to make the event possible.

First Aid
We have medics providing First Aid for our event in the form of an ambulance and a team of trained staff around the course. If you require their assistance or need to withdraw from the event, please see a marshal, who will assist you and notify the race organisers.
Headphones, Phones, Electronic Devices on the Course
We strongly advise against taking anything electrical/electronic out with you on the course, as items can be fully submerged in water.

Safety
It is participants' responsibility to take care of their own safety and welfare before, during and after the event. Accompanying adult participants are responsible for the safety and welfare of child participants in their charge.

Spectators
Spectators are welcome to roam around designated parts of the course to view participants, but must not go onto the course route at any time, and must stay off any areas of the estate that are roped off or signed as private.

Finishing
When you finish you will be greeted by our medal marshals, who will cut off your wristband and give you your well-earned medal. Please note: no wristband, no medal.

Photos
We have a number of photographers taking photos over the event day. These will be posted in the week or so after the event. Photos are free to download. A link will be provided on this page next to the waiver download when they are up. Photos are searchable by facial recognition. Do you have some photos of the event that you would like to share with us? Send us an email at info@mactuffevents.com and we will share them.
